JAR'D LOOSE tour

Chicago's Jar'd Loose prepare to kick off 2013 with a tour of the Eastern US.

Since the release of their debut album, Goes to Purgatory, in July, the band have turned heads with their thrashing version of noise rock, marked by sneering vocals, driving guitars, creepy interludes, and some downright infectious hooks. Terrorizer Magazine summed it up beautifully with this review of the debut: "Jar'd Loose not only capture the unhinged, dark personality of [The Jesus Lizard and Helmet], but they also rock out, purely and simply, with a venomous rage rarely heard outside the nastiest sludge. 'Goes to Purgatory' rests atop a foundation of dirty rock grooves and fat, twisting riffs... Out of nowhere comes one of the most exciting debuts of the year."

Jan 9 - Columbus, OH @ Carabar
Jan 10 - Baltimore, MD @ Sidebar

Decibel's Top 40 Albums of 2012

PHANTOM GLUE

Black Market Activities officially announces its newest signing: Phantom Glue. BMA will release the band's new album, A War of Light Cones, in early 2013.

From Boston, Massachusetts, Phantom Glue name The Jesus Lizard, Neurosis, and Trouble as key influences, pounding out what Exclaim Magazine has termed "a heated bastion of caustic riffs and unearthly girth".

Beneath the band's self-proclaimed "avalanche of distortion" lies a rich conceptual foundation where lyrics and artwork combine to evoke a Lovecraftian universe. Vocalist/guitarist Matt Oates, also the band's lyricist and resident cover artist, describes new album A War of Light Cones as "a nightmare/occult alternate history of Colonial America". Standout track "Perils", for example -- released in August on alt weekly The Boston Phoenix's Born of Fire, Vol. 2 compilation, alongside other Boston area bands like Doomriders -- tells the tale of a trapper catching a creature whose pelt grants psychic gifts. Stream "Perils" here.

Phantom Glue's second album and their first for BMA, A War of Light Cones was produced by Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou at GodCity Studio (Converge, Cave In, Today Is The Day). Ballou's connection to Phantom Glue dates back to the 90s when he and Matt Oates were bandmates in The Huguenots.

Phantom Glue's lineup is completed by guitarist Mike Gowell, bassist/vocalist Nick Wolf, and drummer Kyle Rasmussen.

BMA boss Guy Kozowyk states, "We are proud to welcome Phantom Glue into the BMA family. As someone who grew up in Boston and still lives in the area, it means a lot to me to have a strong New England contingent on BMA. With the recent Hivesmasher album and now Phantom Glue, we're helping represent some of the exciting stuff going on here right now."

FLOURISHING contest

Win Flourishing stuff from Decibel Magazine today, including the new EP Decibel calls "seriously noise-damaged death metal... think Godflesh's urban blight of industrial noise and ambient fuckery"!

FLOURISHING EP stream

With Intersubjectivity seeing its digital release tomorrow, November 13th, New York City trio Flourishing have handed over the EP to Invisible Oranges where it is now streaming in its entirety.

Invisible Oranges' Doug Moore writes: "Flourishing's music is massive, imposing, and eerie, like the Monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey... Garett Bussanick's guitars sound more like giant sheets of metal colliding than they do like guitars. These guitars pile up into ambient cloudforms above Eric Rizk and Brian Corcoran's scraping rhythms. It's death metal as a natural disaster: primal and devastating, but not actually malicious, and more beautiful than you'd expect."

A standout of the NYC scene that also includes Tombs and Pyrrhon, Flourishing layers dissonant death metal, industrial atmospheres, and transcendent melodies in a way that has been said to evoke the city itself. "The punishment is so relentless and vast that it takes on the ambient qualities of the urban landscape... It is a magnificent noise like New York City itself", according to Stereogum.

A recent review of the EP on BrooklynVegan declares, "Flourishing's brand of death metal approaches early Broadrick-ian heights... The new EP clearly shows the band's impressive death metal chops combined with noisy Godflesh-style dirge and purge."

Intersubjectivity can be purchased now via The Path Less Traveled Records. Following the digital release, a CD release is in the works for early 2013.

FLOURISHING on BrooklynVegan

BrooklynVegan is now streaming "The Petrifaction Lottery", a song off New York City trio Flourishing's new EP, Intersubjectivity.

"Flourishing's brand of death metal approaches early Broadrick-ian heights... The new EP clearly shows the band's impressive death metal chops combined with noisy Godflesh-style dirge and purge", states BrooklynVegan.

The song had its official premiere last week on Stereogum, where it was described with these words: "The punishment is so relentless and vast that it takes on the ambient qualities of the urban landscape... It is a magnificent noise like New York City itself."

A standout of the NYC scene that also includes Tombs and Pyrrhon, Flourishing have established a unique identity, layering dissonant death metal and astral melodies over a cold foundation of proto-industrial darkness.

Intersubjectivity sees its digital release on Nov 13 via The Path Less Traveled Records, with a CD release to come in early 2013.
