Exclaim! has premiered Exalt's new music video, "Worship."
As Exclaim's Bradley Zorgdrager puts it, the song "perfectly toes the lines between metalcore and the band's nu metal influences." Although Exalt is coming out of the hardcore scene – peers include Harm's Way, Code Orange, and Old Wounds, and an upcoming fall tour has them touring with the iconic Ringworm – new album The Shape You Took Before the Ache sees the young Canadians flirting hard with the kind of drama and hooks that once defined nu-metal. Moody melodies and bouncing rhythms nod to bands like Deftones and Fear Factory.
The album was released last week on Good Fight Music in the US, and on New Damage Records throughout the rest of the world.
It was produced by Pete Grossman and Andy Nelson at Bricktop Recording (Weekend Nachos) and mastered by Brad Boatright (Nails, Integrity).
"Elevating their brand of eerie, esoteric metalcore to new heights"
"It's definitely a hardcore record but there's a lot going on musically that'll keep listeners interested beyond just the hardcore crowd. Seriously, this is worth a spin!"
"Crushing brutality... Brief reveries of melody and oddly sweet serenades..."
–Pure Grain Audio
"Exalt weave together bone-breaking metallic hardcore with moody atmosphere... The Shape You Took Before the Ache marks the beginning of an exciting shift for this band..."
